Four of GolfRSA’s leading lights are primed to line up against a host of foreign nations in the Ciputra Jakarta World Junior Golf Championship at Damai Indah Golf in Jakarta, Indonesia this week.

The 11th edition of this global showpiece, which tees off from 6 – 9 June at the Pantai Indah Kapuk Course, has drawn a record field of 150 competitors from 18 countries.

The junior quartet tasked to fly the flag for South Africa are Casandra Hall from Ekurhuleni and Kaiyuree Moodley from Gauteng from the Womens Golf South Africa’s Elite Squad and National Squad duo Cole Stevens and Carl Mwale from Gauteng.

Hall and Moodley will be competing in the 54-hole Girls Class A Division for ages 15 – 17 years, which gets underway on Wednesday, while the South African Golf Development pair will start their campaign in the 72-hole Boys Class A Division for the same age group on Tuesday.

Hall, Moodley and Stevens have all arrived in North Jakarta carrying good form following recent team events at home.

Reigning Nomads SA Girls Rose Bowl champion Moodley represented Gauteng B in the 72-Hole Teams Championship in late May, while Hall racked up seventh place finishes in the Sanlam SA Amateur Stroke Play Championship and the Individual Competition in the teams event.

The 17-year-old Ebotse golfer also made a vital contribution to help Ekurhuleni to third overall at Polokwane Golf Club.

Stevens will be looking to match of better his tie for third in the Boys 13-14 age group last year.

The 15-year-old from Parkview Golf Club made an impressive debut for Presidents Team in the 2017 SA Challenge Cup in May, winning two of his foursomes games and halving another to secure 2.5 points for the team and contributing another three points with two wins and two halves in the singles.

Mwale’s last competitive outing was in April where the 15-year-old from Eagle Canyon nailed a top 20 finish alongside Stevens in the Nomads North and South Junior Championship in Bloemfontein.

The juniors arrived in North Jakarta this weekend and had their first taste of the challenge ahead in the official practice round on Monday.
