“We are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Johann Rupert as the company’s Chairman to the Board of Directors and Cynthia Rayner, Dale Hayes, Jabulane Mabuza, Ken Walker and Zanose Kuneni as independent, non-executive directors,” said Golf RSA chief executive office Grant Hepburn.

“The company requires a further three directors to represent the shareholders of the company of Golf RSA, being the South African Golf Association (SAGA) and Womens Golf South Africa (WGSA).

“We also welcome WSGA officer bearer Karen Olivant (WGSA President) and SAGA officer bearers Geoff Taylor (SAGA Acting President) and Naadir Agherdien (SAGA Acting Senior Vice President).”

The independent, non-executive directors elected will serve an initial term of two years.

“We were fortunate to receive nominations for many diverse, highly-qualified individuals,” Hepburn said.

“Mr Rupert is the founder and chairman of the South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB), Chairman of the South African PGA Tour (Sunshine Tour), Honorary Vice President of the European Tour and the first amateur in 90 years to be awarded Honorary Membership by the PGA of South Africa.

“We are incredibly privileged that Mr Rupert has accepted the chairman position. He has received numerous awards in recognition of his outstanding contribution to golf in South Africa and globally. Through his business influence and passion for the game, Mr Rupert has done an immense amount of good work at all levels of the game in South Africa, from development to the professional arena.

“The other non-executive directors who have confirmed their availability to serve Golf RSA on our first Board of Directors bring a wealth of knowledge and influence to the table. We are very fortunate to have their expertise, talent and energy as we continue to explore ways to strengthen and promote amateur golf in South Africa.”

Rupert said: “Golf has given me far more than I’ve ever done in giving to golf. It is an honour to assume the position of chair of the first Golf RSA Board of Directors.

“I welcome the opportunity to guide the organisation and I congratulate the rest of the Board for throwing their support and commitment into this new venture. Together, we will promote the amateur game at home and steer the sport to greater growth and development in South Africa.”
